Types of Thrust Ball Bearing

 

51326 M Thrust Ball Bearing

51326 M is a single direction thrust ball bearing. M - machined brass cage, centered on the ball. It can accommodate unidirectional axial loads and must not be subjected to any radial loads. Its separable components facilitate installation/disassembly and maintenance inspection.

51101 Single Direction Thrust Ball Bearing

Single direction thrust ball bearings are designed to handle axial loads in one direction only, and should not be subjected to any radial load. They are not capable of carrying radial loads.

Components of Thrust Ball Bearing

Ball bearings contain four key components: two races (rings), the balls (rolling elements), and the retainer (which keeps the balls apart). Angular contact and radial ball bearings include an inner and outer ring, designed to support radial loads, applied perpendicular to the rotation axis.

 

The stationary outer race is housed to transfer radial loads. The inner race, attached to the rotating shaft, supports and steers the shaft. Rolling elements are crucial for carrying and spreading loads across raceways.

 

These elements rotate at different speeds from the inner race's speed but revolve around the inner race. The separator acts as a buffer to prevent the balls from colliding. Positioned between the balls, it prevents contact. Thrust bearings are designed to support loads parallel to the rotation axis (axial loads), consisting of two equal-sized rings.

Disassembly Procedure of Thrust Ball Bearing

》Clean the surrounding area to prevent debris from entering the equipment during removal.
》Remove the locking washer by bending the locking tab out of the way. Then, use a spanner wrench to remove the locking nut.
》Lubricate the bearing with penetrating oil.
》Use a ball bearing puller or extractor to gently and evenly apply force to the bearing. When doing so, keep the pressure as even as possible. Gentle tapping with a hammer or mallet may aid in removal. Most importantly, do not cut the bearing off with a grinder, as you may risk damaging the housing and shaft.
》Once the bearing is free, inspect the housing and shaft for signs of wear or damage that may require further repair or replacement.
》Inspect the bearing itself and take note of any unusual damage.
